Maris Platais

Maris Platais was born in Latvia in 1936. He has lived in New England since 1949. He is a graduate of Tufts University and the Boston Museum School. After four years in the United States Marine Corps, he worked as an advertising artist, while concurrently teaching drawing at the Museum of Fine Arts. Since 1982, he has devoted all of his time to the fine arts. He lectures and demonstrates to art associations throughout the northeast. Some of his many national awards include those from the Academic Artists, the Mystic International and Arts for the Parks in Jackson, Wyoming. His work has appeared on the cover and center spreads of Yankee magazine. He is a member of the Academic Artists Association, the American Society of Marine Artists, the Concord Art Association and the Guild of Boston Artists.
