Nancy Charles

Nancy grew up in Miami, Florida, and spent a lot of time at the ocean and in the Everglades, which she loves. Her love for animals can be traced back to those early years and has been a big part of her life ever since.

Nancy’s interest in art came from her father, Clayton Charles, who was chairperson of the art department at the University of Miami. She grew up working with him in his studio and sitting in on his classes.

In 1981, she moved to Tennessee with her two children and since then she has been working almost exclusively in colored pencil. She has been exhibiting regionally and nationally. In addition, she is teaching drawing classes.

She has been working hard to expand her knowledge of animals so she can convey her love for them through her work.

In 1995 she branched out into the etching process and her work has translated wonderfully to that medium. Nancy is also currently working on a book.
